I had the pleasure of once again publishing a bookmark tutorial in the Seychelles Nation newspaper!
For those of you who missed it, do not despair, you can follow the tutorial below.
Materials:
Ruler, Pencil, Eraser, Paper, Perforator, Paint or Colouring Pencils, Coloured pens, Tassel (handmade using string and beads, or other materials)

First let’s create the bookmark by creating a rectangular shaped box using your ruler and pencil on your paper. The measurement should be around 15 cm x 5 cm.
Once you have cut out the rectangle, it is time to start drawing your design. Note that you will be using both sides of the cut out so be sure to keep both sides clean throughout the process. I have chosen a simple flower design that will allow me to paint it as a loose floral. Lightly draw in your flower template across the bookmark.

Then proceed to painting in your flowers and adding leaves to fill in the gaps in your bookmark.

You can then add some shimmer to your flowers by adding in metallic colours or even sticking on glitter. I added some gold watercolor paint to the centre of the flowers and green shimmer to the leaves. When you pivot the bookmark to reflect light you can see the shimmer which adds a lovely magical touch to your creation.

Once your painted side has dried, it is time to flip it over and decorate the inside of the bookmark. First, create a hole using a perforator at the top of the bookmark. You can then add a coloured border using the same colour as the petals of your flowers on the outside of the bookmark.

Once the painted border has dried, you can then right an inspirational and personalised message to your mother. For this tutorial I have written “Happy Mother’s Day” to give you an idea of how it could look.

The last step is to tie in your tassel to the bookmark. Make sure it is secure. Then step back and admire your work.

I would love to see your bookmark creations! Feel free to post them on Instagram and tag @the_art_soothe so that I can share them!
Happy Creating!
